Moor Memories

Moor Memories Oral History Project

What we’ve done

During our two year project we collected nearly fifty local stories from the moorlands in and around the Peak District. You can listen to a selection of the interviews and audio clips online from the links below.
There is a wealth of knowledge held locally about the moors, both traditional land management and farming techniques as well as stories of living in moorland communities and enjoying the moors for their natural beauty. It is important to record this knowledge so that it is not lost to future generations.

As well as creating an archive of Moor Memories, we produced a series of booklets and podscrolls, ran workshops and gave presentations.

Three booklets are available for free at the Moorland Centre in Edale and other outlets throughout the Peak District or you can download and print them.
